A two plane swing requires superior tempo and timing to return the clubhead to the ball at the right instant to yield similar results. It’s a more efficient motion. By its very nature the one plane swing requires more 'genuine' rotation. A two planer can seduce themselves into thinking they're rotating their torso when they're just by lifting their arms. Lift your arms in a one plane swing and you're clearly off plane. Picture a homerun hitter's baseball swing. Power is developed by rotating their shoulders (torso) while driving off an athletic foundation (legs). Now picture that same hitter trying to produce any 'pop' without rotating their torso. Given the better rotation of a one plane swing it develops more power with less effort.
It generates more rotational energy. The rotation of the torso generates tremendous centrifugal force. You might recall from your high school physics class that this creates more kinetic energy AND more club head speed. When you produce more centrifugal force it squares your club face automatically. Want to prove this to yourself? Set up to take a golf swing but swing the club as if you're playing baseball. Make a full rotation of your shoulders in your backswing. Relax any tension in your wrists and arms. Now make an aggressive baseball swing starting with the rotation of your torso. Allow your arms to lag behind as you start your swing with your shoulders and hips. Your arms will extend away from your body naturally as they catch up and your club is going to 'release' automatically. In fact try to stop the club from releasing. Be careful not to hurt yourself.
It’s a better bio-mechanical motion. A one plane swing allows every aspect of your swing to work together with each muscle group functioning in a bio-mechanically efficient manner. What does that mean? Think about that baseball swing again. Your muscles are perfectly aligned with your club head through out the swing so while you produce massive amounts of power and speed you aren't putting any unnecessary stress on your joints or muscles. If you try not to release the club you'll get a sense of just how hard that would be on your muscles and joints.
If you have suffered from some of the common golfer's repetitive stress conditions (golfer's elbow, wrist, shoulder knee, hip etc.) chances are you don't have a one plane swing so you're putting excessive stress on a given muscle group during the swing.
